The Boxes are in the trees now

We store them high up the trees so that the bears have a harder time messing them up.  It saves hauling them all into camp.  (This summer the plan is to make a bunch of stacking marten boxes).  We have box trees about every 10 kms.
Now there is just the Compulsary Reporting forms to fill out and email off.  Then re trap black all the traps to get them ready for next year.
We are still out there in the day trying to get the circle established.  Today we made 350 metres on the Inklin high bank.  There is a 40 horse jet leg motor hanging from a tree .... somewhere just in front of us.  Been hanging there for the last 7 years we've been told.  The jet boat was taken by the high water 7 years ago.  Pilots have seen it in the sand bar and we will look for it in the spring before high water.  It is probably beyond repair but well worth looking for.

  1. Hi Bryan&Vikki
I hope you find that jet leg motor . Its good to have a mission! So now you go onto Beaver and Muskrat. I know a bit about Beaver but what kind of coat does a muskrat have and what are its uses? :)Brian(:

  2. Hi Bryan and Vikki,
So are you calling this a good marten year? You must really be seeing and feeling spring come in out there.
Here in Whse the streets are dry and snow free generally.
So I've been wondering, when you are out checking the traps, how does your dog travel? Cheers, Cathie

  3. that sounds pretty cool. a motor just out there in the trees.hope its fixable. down here they occasionally find stuff thats been dropped out of planes. sometimes even the actual plane abandoned on some remote area. used to be even more but now they've cracked down on those illegal deliveries if you know what i mean. still chilly down here. with temps in the 30f range at nite into the morn.then it generally warms up. cold for florida though. ken

  4. Hi Cathie... we caught a fair bunch of Marten but we are more concerned about having Marten for along time. Our dog Hannah loves to come with us and will ride anything we will, even a horse. She is 50% Australian Shepard, 25%MacNab Shepard and 25% Blue Healer. The smartest dog we have ever had. But she is getting old now... 12 plus, and her feet get old. She only comes with us in the summer and on shorter skidoo trips. Otherwise she guards the cats and sleeps on the lazyboy.

  6. Hi Ken. the motor is part of our trapline assets. It is a low mileage 1990 Yamaha 40 horse jet leg motor. The trapper in the early 2002's thought it was safe there in the trees. We will soon see, if we can find it. The boat didn't make it....so we have been told. We don't know the whole story yet.
