Day 4 10:am to 6 pm 1979 Alpine Twin Track

All the Kings Horses and all the Kings Men tried to put "Miss Porky" together again.
1 1/2 hrs sanding the steel shiv and polishing the aluminum clutch with rags and clutch cleaner. Took fuel pump apart and soaked it in carb cleaner. The diaphram looked in good condition. Removed the air box and cleaned out all the pine needles, washed it up.
Totally disassembled the carburator , cleaned it as best as possible and bolted it back on.
Celebration dinner was getting ready.

Oh, I've hauled way too much freight with one of those pigs. Congrats on gettin her back to the home cabin. The older model like yours really is the best built. If you get it running, it'll pull like a Clydesdale, as long as the track don't spin.

I managed to burn a piston in one that had been parked a few years and then got to run again. It was because wasps had built a hive in the fins on the cylinder walls and between the cooling fan shrouds and the motor. I guess they figured the spark plug openings were great entrances to a nifty "hollow tree". Overheated one side and burned that piston. Maybe check it out while she's apart.

I see you had to take the ski off. If you have to tow it again, they pull a bit better if you attach the tow rope to the ski.

One more thing that might be useful. If the key is lost, just don't plug the socket under the hood into the back of the key reciever. She'll start with the pull rope then until you can get a key unit and use the starter. If you plug in the socket, then the off position of the key (when it was removed it had to be in off) prevents the motor from getting spark.

Thanks Evan.... the idea about the key ....might be a big one. I couldn't get spark. I will try that tomorrow. If you think of anything else let me know. Bryan

My Grandpa had one of those.
I think it was a 640 cc. Even had reverse gear.
Big twin Rotax engine. Single carb. Had electric start too.

He used it on his trap line in SK. Use to carry one of those big aluminum grain scoops with him all the time. Get into the bull rushes along the edge of some water holes and get stuck. You have to shovel your way out. Just like shoveling out a stuck car.

Take care U 2

Bad snow conditions around Prince George right now. Went out yesterday with the Skandic SWT but went to early in the morning and everything was very frozen. Going down town today to buy a set of snow scratchers for it, they bolt onto the rails, and are used in icy conditions to throw ice particles into the track for lubrication of all the rubber and plastic parts.

The day was not a total loss only 70 km. away from home, so came back dropped off the sled and went back out with the Quad.
