Been too Tired to Blog, do dishes or make bread...BUT we got to the Inklin cabin!!!

The race was on.   With this spring weather the Inklin was openning up more and more.  The side channel we had been using was covered in overflow now (Could be impossible in a few days). We had travelled up the river on the frozen ice until we came to open water so we had to make a snow ramp up  the 15 foot Inklin hi bank where the hi water had tore away the land. .  Took us about 3 hours of shovelling.  Once up on land we had stomp and cut a trail for the skidoos ... no body to the snow now. ( Last year at this time there would have been 4 feet of snow here. )   On the second day at dusk we found the cabin.  Went back yesterday....   There was a great bear-board infront of the door.  But the cabin was a real mess.  Someone had left the door open alittle and mice and a Fisher had had a great time.  Everthing was torn down off the shelves and tore apart.

  1. Wow, you two are having a good season this year! Great to see you made it to the second cabin. Man, are you guys ever putting in the hours. Did you find the motor?

We got a new calf on Sunday. Cute little heifer that we'll probably keep and raise as a herd cow. Got to get my chick brooder house improvements finished soon.

Seems like you deserve a rest day. I've had too many lately. ;-)

  2. Hi guys, I was wondering if Bryan could let me know which ripping chain he has had the best luck with. I am working up around Fort Nelson right now but will be going home on Friday. Once there I will go and see Magard ventures and pick up a Alaskan powersaw mill from him.

Thank's and take care on that rotten ice.

  3. Wow, great job finding the cabin.
Ok, so like Steve said, do you guys take days' off? It seems like you are always out there working.Or is that just what you do in this season and soon you'll rest?
Also, great dog it sounds like you have. I have a blue heeler myself and can't imagine any other dog.
    Cheers, Cathie

  4. Hi Evan....calving season is hard work also. our best friend down near Kelowna had 100 cows and we were always there helping on the bad ones. We looked and looked but no motor yet. found the twin track skidoo and will try to bring it back up here tomorrow or Fri. Today we rested...and did dishes, baked bread etc.

  5. Hello Steve. It is called a rip chain. The teeth are rounded on the edge not flat on top (no square corner). They are sharpened at 10 degrees and they are skip tooth. Also invest in a clap to the bar type file guide. We think we bought it at Yukon Honda dealer. about 110.00. It saves having to buy lots of chain.
we're hoping for a few more days of solid ice down on the river. bye for now Bryan

  9. Hey Bryan&Vikki
The dishes can wait, that looks like some pretty steep terrain there. Will you use the other cabin?
    Take care :)Brian(:

  10. Hello Brian... this whole area is steep, rugged and wild. This is not a Registered cabin so is for anyone who needs to stay overnight for shelter. We have applied for two new Registered Line Cabin tags. These Registered Trapper Cabin are covered by law and are protected. Yes.....we ended up using paper plates

  11. Hi Bryan, I know that I need a rip chain, but I was just wondering which brand has worked the best for you. I know that oregon and grandberg make them, and also a few other companies. You told me before that you have a 24" mill, does that seem adequate, and what length bar do you need to run it?

    Thanks

    Steve

  15. Hi Ken..... Cabin is in good shape inside but ridge cap has opened and there is a 2" gap all along the ridge... When it starts to rain it will be one leaky room. We will fix it this spring. Also the outhouse has fallen over on it's side. The trapper here in the 1997 to 2003 used this cabin lots. Alot of the traps etc are here. We will use it next winter also. River Rafters sometimes stop by and hunters in the fall have used it also.
