The beautiful empty Lodge...
| Fresh Bear Diggings... flower roots |
This tree carving was done by Taku River Tlingit Wayne Carlick three or four years ago.
Only the sunny side is open so we turned around and headed back.

Predators got the Beaver families at these two lodges east of us. Probably Wolf or Lynx.
A nice trip out on the lake, how often do you have neighbour's ?:)
ReplyDeleteI can see how a little open water can be a big deal after a long winter.
ReplyDeleteHe carved it in October, 2008. Can't believe it was that long ago!
ReplyDeleteJust curious- what is the story with the lodge? Someone obviously put a lot of time and money into building it. Looks like a nice place.
ReplyDeleteHi Scott. Lodge was built by the Guide Outfitter who worked this area. He said he figured 100 Beaver De Havilland and Super Cub trips in with supplies. The former trapper here, Fritz, was the carpenter, with help from the Guide Outfitters staff.
ReplyDeleteReally something when you consider nothing but skidoo, chainsaw, chainsaw winches and chain and cable. No roads here so no heavy lifting equipment was used.
The Guide Outfitter area was bought by a group which included the Taku River Tlingit First Nations.
Impressive. I'm a contractor down here in the SE United States and it's clear that someone worked really hard to get that place built. I can't imagine having to fly everything in. It's hard enough with a Home Depot 5 miles away!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the effort you put into your blog. I love reading it. I hope you have a great summer. Keep living the dream!
