The Great Grizzly is Waking Up

Yesterday Vikki spotted the first trough in the high mountain snow.  It is an exciting time.  This photo is darkened so that you can see it easier.  You will obviously see the two tracks.... but then study the area like Vikki did.  You can see where the bear slid down the hill to the bare rock patch to the left in the bottom area of photo.

Tracks were first spotted with Binoculars, then Vikki skidooed to the cabin and got the Swarovski HD 20-60x Telescope .  Area of sighting is right above the word underlined.
On page 65 at the bottom of the page Andy Russel writes...   Certainly the grizzly of the wilderness frontier was not afraid of man.  Fear came with the white man and his powerful rifle.

Two good reads in your journey to get a glimpse of what a Grizzly is about.

  1. seeing a grizzly in the wild has got to be a awe inspiring site. dont want to run into one. we've got black bear down here and some of them get pretty large. i hear there are more reported black bear incidents . but thats probably because they overlap populated areas moreso. are you leaving the cabin for the summer this year. thanks ken

  2. Hi Ken and Leah...Black Bears are all different. Some avoid you, some are more predatory. If you see one circling you at a distance you might look like prey. We are not flying out of here til the end of June this summer... will be wall tenting it, making trail. Then we are out til Sept 20 when Moose hunting starts. glad to hear from you.
