2 pm plus 4 Cel. First we thought it was a fly by.... but no, the hank sounded every 20 minutes or so. Finally we got the binoculars and searched the small openings along the edge of the lake but no sign. Then we found it... Way out in the middle of the lake on the ice. The Trumpeter Swan would flatten it's neck down on the ice and suck up water. It rested out there all afternoon and as dusk approached you could hear it's nervous honk. First once every 4 minutes, then as it got darker 4 times a minute. At dark it was silent. By dawn it was gone and because we'd never heard any honking in the night we hoped it was safe.
Last night at dusk Vikki heard the honk coming closer and a Trumpeter Swan was flying about 10 feet off the ice towards the middle of the lake. It had come back. This morning no sign of it.
