Boarding the Beaver

The swamp opening is getting bigger and bigger.  Bryan pulled the sets after he caught one large male.  There are lots of willows here but with the amount of snow that is going to melt this spring, we don't think this Beaver damn will be able to hold the spring run off.  These Beavers damned the creek instead of a side pond.
When boarding the pelt don't stretch it out too tight.  You should be able to pull the hide up with your fist.
Bryan uses a glover needle with gut thread.
This meat is edible if you double boil the meat, throwing the water away each time and then fry it.

  1. Looking at your photos and can smell the scent of the beaver hide! Some things stick with you! As far as eating the beaver meat, we have also used the beaver tail in 'baked beans and beaver tail'. It is very fatty and adds to baked beans like bacon does. Glad to see spring arriving to the north!
