If there is no presence on our land there are some people who think it is up for grabs (like our Northwest Passage). We trap in a remote area of Northern B.C., CANADA, 100 km from the nearest road. We fly in by Beaver Bush Plane and stay here for long periods of time. We are caretakers of the land and this is how we live.
Twice in the last 29 years we've had beavers take down a dozen trees in about 500' of shoreline between a WED and SAT, both times in the fall. The DNR told me they go into a bit of a fall feeding frenzy for about two weeks in the fall. They took down birch, maple, an oak each time. Of course they also took a few white pine that I grew from seedlings to about thirty feet.
ReplyDeleteArt.... that would hurt after watching the white pine grow to 30 feet. We put net bags with old dog hair in it on the trees we don't want to see cut down. So far it is working. Touch wood.
