IF..IF....IF... THE Dangerous Radioactive Iodine Comes

My mum just emailed me the Global TV news cast out of Vancouver.  If the Japanese Reactors leak....the wind currents are bringing it all to Alaska , Canada down to Cal.  on March 22 and on.  Being in a remote place I first checked to see if we had Potassium Iodine which you are to take to block the radioactive iodine from being taken up in the thyroid gland.   (If your system has plenty of Potassium Iodine in it .... it will not absorb the radioactive iodine)..... But no luck....   then I searched the internet.
TABLE SALT   76 micrograms of iodine per gram of table salt.   Most canned goods have lots of iodined salt.  SEA SALT if it has added Iodine
FISH..... Cod   99 mcg in 3 oz of fish        Cod liver oil   838 mcg per 100 gr oil
               Sea Bass, Haddock, Perch
Shrimp   35 mcg in 3 oz.
Tuna   17 mcg in 1/2 can
                Sardines  29 mcg
                Rainbow trout   13 mcg
SEAWEED   Kelp    1/4 dried oz   4,500 mcg of iodine
               Sushi wrapped in seaweed
MILK     1 cup   56 mcg of iodine     also cheese, yogurt and ice cream
EGGS
Potato    60 mcg in a med potato if potato grown in iodine rich soil
Cream style corn canned   1/2 cup    13 mcg
Iodine Tincture which is poison to eat..... can be put on the skin on the stomach and your body absorbs it.
If there is any luck in all of the horribleness that has happened over in Japan...... it is that their diet is rich in iodine.  Our hearts go out to the Japanese who are experiencing a terrible thing.  Here we are a long long way away and we are worried about our own health and they are right there.

  1. It is a rotten situation, no doubt. However, you're right that you can still get iodine from those foods listed.

Potassium iodide is apparently flying off the shelves in the USA, and rumour is that Canada doesn't allow for the sale of potassium iodide; it has to be ordered in from the USA. So, if you order it in now, it may get to you in time, but...

I'm a little nervous about this, to be honest.

  2. The earthquake/Tsumami moved Japan eight feet. The reactor issues certainly will result in widespread radiation sickness in Japan...and they have a history knowing how bad that can be.

The following is from www.msnbc.com...it's difficult in these situations knowing who to believe or what corporate interest is speaking through what government mouthpiece but here you go.
As for the potential of radiation reaching the U.S. mainland, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission on Sunday said no harmful levels were likely.

"Given the thousands of miles between the two countries, Hawaii, Alaska, the U.S. territories and the U.S. West Coast are not expected to experience any harmful levels of radioactivity," it said in a statement.

It's virtually impossible to defend oneself in this situation...much like being face-to-face w/ a grizzly. Let's all hope that the nuclear proponents take this to heart.

    Be safe.
