THE RIGHT FRONT LOG IS TOO LOW SO BRYAN IS GOING TO ADD A RISER
RISER
"MISS PIGGY" PULLS IN THE THIRD LOG INTO PLACE
USING THE PRY BAR TO LIFT THE LOG UP ONTO THE BASE LOG
NOW THE PEE VEE HELPS ROLL THE LOG IN PLACE
WEDGE NAILED AT END TO STOP LOG
"IT'S LEVEL....."
ARROW IS NOW AT BOTTOM
BRYAN NOW MARKS WITH HIS PENCIL A MARK 2" DOWN HIS BAR. THIS LETS HIM SEE HOW DEEP TO CUT DOWN TO MAKE THE SADDLE.
FIRST HE CUTS STRAIGHT DOWN TIL HE REACHES THAT MARK... THEN HE CUTS IN FROM THE TWO SIDES TO FORM A SADDLE
YOU CAN SEE HE'S MADE THE FIRST DOWN CUT AND ALSO THE SIDE.... NOW HE IS CUTTING IN TO JOIN THE CENTER CUT .... THEN HE GOES BACK AND FORTH WITH HIS CHAINSAW TO MAKE THE SADDLE SMOOTH AND SCOOPED
BEFORE ROLLING THE LOG BACK IN TO PLACE BRYAN MAKE THE SPOT WHEN THE SADDLE IS GOING TO SIT SMOOTH
HANNAH WANTS TO PLAY WITH WOOD ALSO
USING SMALL POLES TO ROLL LOGS UP.... BIG HINT.... PEE VEE FINGER CAN REALLY PINCH YOUR HAND SO BE VERY RESPECTFUL
THIS LOG WAS HAULED BY "MISS PIGGY" PARALLEL TO LOG, THEN ONE END ROLLED UP ON POLE THEN WITH VIKKI PUSHING DOWN ONE END AND BRYAN USING THE PEE VEE IT WAS UP
LEVELING THE TOP LOGS .... NEXT WILL BE THE FLOOR JOISTS. IT WAS 5:30 AND SO VIKKI SAID GOODBYE AND LEFT BRYAN WORKING AWAY. HE'LL STAY AT THE WALKER'S LINE CABIN TONIGHT WITH HANNAH.
VIKKI'S BACK AT THE LAKE ...JUST HERSELF, BEE AND THE CHICKENS. BRYAN IS STAYING UP THERE TO START MILLING THE FLOOR JOISTS.

OK I said last year your cabin initiative made me feel like a real slug. I invested in an Alaskan Mill (still in the box) and some loops of ripping chain. I'll still be trying to make sawdust by the time you are finished with this cabin. I remain impressed that you can just build on the ground. In MN it would rot from the bottom up w/i a few years with a softwood base even with our winters.
WELL....You have to deal with what you are dealt with.... The balsam will rot... But we are hoping the overhang of the roof and the scaring of the bark will make the ground logs stay longer than exposed. These are not city structures. If it becomes a little lopsided ... so be it. It is shelter when it is needed.... Old trappers used to sleep in a 4' by 7' lean too.
