BUILDING ANOTHER TRAPPER LINE CABIN DAY 4

 IT WAS A LEISURELY MORNING....EGGS, SAUSAGES AND HASH BROWNS... THEN AT 10 AM PACKING THE TOBOGGAN AND SKIDOOS.  (BOX OF 10" SPIKES.BOX OF 3"COMMONS, SINGLES, BATS OF INSULATION.  A FOAMIE FOR HENRI TO SLEEP ON, SUPPLIES FOR 3 OR 4 DAYS, DRINKING WATER.)    HANNAH AND BEE GOT TO SLEEP ON THE LAZY BOY'S BECAUSE VIKKI WAS COMING BACK.
HENRI HAD NEVER BEEN AS FAR AS THE LINE CABIN AT WALKERS VALLEY SO IT WAS ALL NEW TO HIM.

 WE REACHED THE NEW BUILDING SITE AROUND 1PM.  THE SIDES WHERE NAILED IN.
 THE CABIN WAS SQUARED... YOU TAKE THE MEASUREMENT FROM ONE CORNER ACROSS.  THEN ONCE AGAIN FROM THE OTHER CORNER ACROSS.  THESE MEASUREMENTS HAVE TO BE THE SAME.  THEN THE LOGS CAN BE TOE NAILED DOWN TO KEEP THEM FROM MOVING.
CABIN IS 13' X 13' SO THAT MILLING IS EASY. 

 BRYAN IS MARKING THE LINE FOR THE FLOOR JOISTS.  HE DRAWS THE LINE DOWN SQUARE AND THEN PENCILS IN A BIG X ON THE SIDE OF THE LINE WHERE THE JOIST IS PLACED.
 AS SOON AS BRYAN STARTED THE ALASKAN MILL SAW..... IT WAS OBVIOUS WE HAD A BIG PROBLEM.  IT WAS NOT GETTING GAS.  (WOULD RUN BUT AS SOON AS IT STARTED TO MILL THE WOOD IT PETERED OUT.
FIRST THE ????? WAS CLEANED.... (sorry Vikki has forgotten that part name)
 WITH A WIRE HE HOOKED THE FUEL FILTER AND PULLED IT OUT.
 LOTS OF BLOWING AND SUCKING IN THE GAS LINE AND FILTER BY BOTH OF THEM.  THEY THEN EXCHANGED THIS FILTER WITH THE ONE ON THE OTHER SAW.  BUT IT STILL WAS NO WORKING RIGHT.
 THE SPARK PLUG WAS PULLED BUT LOOKED NEW.  THE AIR FILTER WAS ALREADY OFF.  
BYRAN STARTED TO MAKE A SMALL SLOTTED SCREWDRIVER OUT OF A CHAIN SAW FILE.  HENRI WAS ALSO MAKING ONE OUT OF A NAIL... HAMMERING THE END FLAT AGAINST THE AXE HEAD AND THEN FILING THE FLATTEN EDGE.
 NOW THE AIR CONTROL?????  WAS ADJUSTED.  FIRST A LINE WAS DRAWN ON THE END of the screw driver/chainsaw file SO THAT THEY HAD AN IDEA OF THE TURN AMOUNT.
 STILL NO GOOD.  FINALLY THE ALASKA MILL WAS REMOVED AND ALSO THE BAR THAT FITS THE ALASKA MILL.  THIS WAS TRANSFERRED ONTO THE SMALLER SAW.
 MAKE SURE THE AREA IS REALLY CLEAN.  USE A RAG.  IF THERE IS ANY DIRT OR GRIME THE BAR WILL SHAKE LOOSE.
 BELOW.....  ALASKAN MILL HINT!!!!!!!!

WHEN YOU HAVE THE SAW INSTALLED IN THE  ALASKAN MILL AND ALL READY TO GO.    STOP!!!!!    LOOK DOWN THE BAR.  YOU WILL SEE IT IS BENT.  YOU HAVE TO RELAX THE BAR.  YOU NEED A OPEN BOX WRENCH.  AS YOU ADJUST EACH BOLT YOU WILL SEE THE BAR RELAX.  THIS IS WHY MOST MILLED CUTS HAS MARKS ON THE BOARDS AND LOGS.  BRYAN'S ARE PERFECTLY SMOOTH.
SAW HANDLE IS SITTING ON THE GROUND AND THE BAR TIP IS UP IN THE AIR....   THEN LOOK DOWN THE BAR...

 LAY THE ALASKA MILL FLAT AND UNDO EACH BOLT A BIT.  THEN DO THE OTHER SIDE.  THE CHAIN SAW BAR BECOMES FLAT.

 STILL THE MILL WAS NOT WORKING...... IT WAS DECIDED WE WOULD ALL GO BACK TO BASE CAMP AND GET THE OLD SAW.  VIKKI LEFT THEM AT 5:30 TO MAKE THE HOUR AND A HALF TRIP BACK TO START SUPPER.  BRYAN AND HENRI STAYED TO SKID IN SOME LOGS.


ABOVE IS BEAR MOUNTAIN. (It is the mountain right behind base camp)  IF YOU LOOK CLOSELY YOU CAN SEE ALL THE SNOW SLIDES.  
AT 8 PM VIKKI HEARD BRYAN ON THE SBX RADIO.  "SORRY..... WE'RE NOT COMING DOWN"  WE FOUND OUT WHAT WAS WRONG.  IT WAS THE FUEL FILTER.!!!! WE EXCHANGED THE FILTER FROM THE SMALL SAW AND IT IS RUNNING FINE."
VIKKI STOPPED MAKING SUPER AND RELAXED... WROTE DOWN THE DAYS HAPPENINGS.

Hey Bryan that pile of sawdust will get pretty deep by the time your done. Are there rules and regulations for cabins and buildings on traplines? Looking forward to part 4 Vikki!

Chainsaws are awesome good and awesome bad. Bad fuel and fuel filters and air filters seem to create and solve many problems. I always travel with two but now travel with after having a 'twofer' failure. Looks like you have some additional help with this cabin; that's good. Travel/work safely.

You certainly do produce some beautiful lumber with that mill of yours. Must be the expertise!
