Merry Christmas to you both.
I am going to be spending Christmas, playing house elf at my Dad's place so he and his SO can go and visit her daughters and not worry about their house. Am looking forward to it immensely - I can walk around in my Longjohns without aggravating anyone else... Not to mwention that I can eat exactly what I want!

Merry Christmas to you both. After about a zillion holidays with extended family and in-laws a few days remote, off the grid more or less sounds super. Travel safe.

I sincerely hope you have a good Christmas and immensely enjoy your blog.

Do want to continue with a discussion on the trapping culture. Yesterday I completed a bird feeder. Today there are black capped and boreal chicadees, pine grossbeaks and nuthatches at the feeding platform. Whiskeyjacks were flying low and very slow past the windows like grey ghosts.

I sit here in the comfort of the wood heat and watch the snow falling. Its comforting that this can be enjoyed without trapping or killing wildlife.

Very sad news:
http://www.opinion250.com/blog/view/22525/1/bushman+found+dead+in+taku+river+area?
That's only about 28 miles SW from you there. Condolences to all who kew him.

The bushman who died?

Would that be someone who lived near the mouth of King Salmon River.

From the decription, thats the only location I can think of? If its who I think it us, I really emjoyed talking to him.

We believe the bushman was Marty down at King Salmon Flats, 25 or so km from us. We never met him and his wife. It has been distressing for us. If we had know he was back on the Taku, we would have talked to him on the SBX radio.
We can't help but wonder what went wrong. He was a great part of this area.

Hi HDT.... we have a bird feeder also and we cut up the Marten bodies and the birds love them. Stellars' Jay, Magpie, Mtn chickadees and Cdn.Jays. You're lucky you have lots of money. We still need to make some money. Did you know that if a trapline does not earn 200. a year, in a few years of no income, someone else can take it over.

Marty one said to me that "my time is mine".

He and his wife worked very hard and saved enough money to live a unique lifestyle on their homestead.

When we find out more about what happened we will let you know. What's your first name?

Hi Happy Trappers

You can call me Henry David- not actually my real name but perhaps a provisional one that goes comfortably with anonymity.

I immensely enjoy your blog and will eventually may give up on any critique of trapping. Its nice to see the photos and stewardship associated with people who live in remote areas. The other side is the sadness associated with people harvesting wild animals.

Hello Henry David... If you do not believe there is sadness each time an animals is taken... you need to rethink. They have given their lives so that we can make a small living and also eat. We do not take the killing of any animal lightly, but the world has to be balanced. If we take a few and there are still lots, we can all survive. Martens are the most predatory against themselves. thanks for the name.
