Walker's Valley Line Cabin.... a great four days

THESE ARE HAWK WING MUSHROOMS.... EDIBLE BUT NOTHING SPECIAL.. LOTS OF DIFFERENT MUSHROOMS EVERYWHERE.  WE HAVE THREE BOOKS AND STUDY EACH MUSHROOM WELL.  FOUND A KING BOLETE WHICH WE COOKED UP... REALLY CHOICE.

EVERYONE IS DEAD TIRED AFTER BEING OUT MAKING TRAIL ALL DAY LONG.  BEE IS TIRED FROM ALL THE MICE HUNTING.   WE HAD IT THROUGH TO SWAMP # 7 FROM CABIN SWAMP...    HEARD A WOLF HOWLING AND WENT OUT AND LOOKED FOR IT.  SPOTTED IT ACROSS THE SWAMP..    A BIG SILKIE HAIRED LIGHT COLOURED ONE WITH A BLACK TAIL.

THAT'S SPRUCE PITCH.... ALL OVER BRYAN'S HANDS.... THE ONLY THING THAT TAKES IT OFF IS GAS.   BRYANS DEEP IN A LOUIS L'AMOUR NOVEL.

WOLF TRACKS HEADING DOWN TO THE LAKE

GOT BACK TO THE LAKE AFTER 4 DAYS OF TRAIL MAKING.  WE ARE LEAVING THE QUADS HERE IN THE CORRAL... AND BOATING BACK TO THE BASE CAMP.  ARRIVING AT THE CABIN THE FIRST THING WE DID WAS CHECK THE FREEZERS... GREAT!!!!!   STILL FROZEN SOLID.
WE HAD FROZEN PIZZA AND FRENCH FRIES FOR THANKSGIVING DINNER.  TOO TIRED TO DO MUCH ELSE.
WE ARE HEADING BACK UP TO WALKER'S VALLEY THIS AFTERNOON, AFTER VIKKI CAN'S THE RIPE TOMATOES....  WON'T BE BACK UNTIL NEXT MONDAY AT THE LATEST.....

I've picked quite a lot of king bolete this summer - and eaten just about all of it already. I really like the taste and the fact that it seems to agree with me better than many other species.
I so enjoy your pictures and stories about the things you experience and what your life is like.

The ones you call hawkwing mushrooms - what do they look like on the underside? The picture suggests it's little spikes, in which case we call them hedgehog mushrooms... It seems there has been a LOT of mushrooms all around the circumpolar countries this fall.

Love your independent spirit and self sufficiency particularly in light of what an urbanized society we are slowly becoming. LOVE the blog too!

Have you ever tried the woodland agaricus - they are delicious. They smell like almonds and when you rub the skin it turns a light lemon yellow. Generally white to pinkish brown in colour.
Not to be confused with the deadly amanita - I am not sure if we even have them in the Yukon.
