Overnighting It at Walker's Line Cabin

Bee on the back of vikki's Tundra

Fresh Wolf and vikki

Bottom of hill at Canyon pass.  We have to climb up 700 metres to go high enough to cross at the Canyon where it is not deep....   This is where we ended the day on Thurs Feb 10.

Back at Line cabin for the night....   Saves an hour of returning to the base camp.

No well here...... melting snow

quick and easy.... potatoes in foil

No skinning tonight so Bryan can have a couple of beer and read his book

No skidoo shelter here.  snowed 6"

This hill is about 200' high .  First we have to level the snow and pack it so the 800 Super Wide track has no trouble.  If Bryan had his 550 Tundra Long Track he would fly up here, go up and down 3 or 4 times and it would be done.

He's about 1/3 up the hill.
We laid the trail all the way up to the crossing 700 metres up the mountain.  At 4pm we headed back to the line cabin and grabbed Hannah, Bee and our stuff and headed the hour trip back to the main cabin.  It was great to be back and everything had not froze up because we are having a major mild here right now.  It is Zero Cel.  We are heading back up to Walkers's linecabin this afternoon .  We'll push the trail further and put out new martin and wolverine boxes.  We'll be back Sunday night.

  1. Was at a flea market this morning, some guy was selling a bunch of rusty old leg hold traps for $15 each. I thought that was a bit pricey since I don't think they could have been pried open with a crowbar.

Any way enjoy the mild temperatures.

  2. Hey Bryan&Vikki looks like a nice night in the cabin after a hard day . Do the cat and dog travel happily on the snow machines? Brian:)

  3. I cannot believe your cat travels on the skidoo with you!! When we lived in the arctic before we had to move the cats on a quad and man did they ever yowl! I am sure every person in Kugluktuk could hear them.

  4. The traveling cat is quite amazing. My long gone feline companion, Murphy, was absolutely intolerant of vehicular travel. MN, too, is having a bit of a heat wave after a week of -6F. It was 35F today and 40+F forecast for VD. We did not wear jackets or gloves and pondered sitting out in the lawn chairs in our 50+" of snow.
Travel safe. Enjoy the labor of your work last year on the cabin.

  5. Either you, Vikki, have very small hands, or that is a big wolf. I surely hope you get him
