Signs of others...maybe trappers, prospectors, peoples of the First Nations
We are now finding old Axe marks....so old the bark has grown around the old blazes..... Moose and bears are still keeping this old trail alive.. they look like cow paths. The Taku River Tlingits told us of a trail from The Telegragh Trail....maybe this is it

Nice Wolverine guys. Sometimes you can get a better price for them selling them whole to a taxidermist. But no chance for you guys being so remote. I guess you ship all furs in the Spring when you come out! Do you ship through NAFA. or someone else? I am heading up to Rainbow lake Alberta for three weeks work before Christmas, but hoping to do a little trapping over the holidays. Two or three more years and I will be out there doing what you are but theres no chance of my wife coming with me. Oh well her loss.
ReplyDeleteTake care
Hi Steve. this one is 26 lbs. Some we get here are 37 lbs. We do them up for taxidermy...we don't send them to the sale. Send them and get them tanned and sell them in the Atlin General Store. The same for cross foxes. We send the lynx and marten mink etc to Fur harvestors . We've used both over the years. There is nothing we don't have here...a wash machine, microwave, movies, radio internet. big garden, green house. make it nice and your wife would grow to love it also. Look forward to hearing how your trapping goes...
ReplyDeleteYour blog is really interesting.I'm waiting for your new post.
ReplyDeleteHave a nice day.
that wolverine looks right at home there on the couch.dont think that was the dog. seems like it'd be pretty easy become lost on those trails. though i guess gps can be pretty useful. do you ever ship furs to individuals if they have a special request. thanks ken
ReplyDeleteWe just caught the biggest Wolverine we have ever caught...40 lbs. A real oldtimer. male
ReplyDeleteand about your question yes we can. there are permits to get to ship..depending on what you where looking for we could give you a breakdown of costs.
Hi Bryan&Vikki
ReplyDeleteWas there always a cabin at
king salmon lake.
Have you ever came across any old cabin,s whilst on your trails? In scotland old forester,s blazed trees for the fallers to cut .I know as I worked with some of these older guy,s and learned a lot from them. Hope your trails nearly finished your doing well out there! Brian :)
The photos of the marten and wolverines have been very interesting. We have few wolverine here in MN, perhaps some along the Canadian border. According the DNR they were never prevalent here, even in the early days.
ReplyDeleteWe do have populations of fisher and I've even come close to a couple on our property. Do you have any fisher there and do they have any fur value?
Art...yes we have Fisher here....we don't go after them but they are here...they get a higher price than marten but marten are our bread and butter. We just caught a 40 lb Wolverine...we are doing it up to have it taxidermied for ourselves...the biggest one we have ever seen.
ReplyDeleteHi Brian...we found the remains of an American cabin on the shores of our lake ...they were squatted here and the RCMP had to come in in the 60's and get them to leave. There is also the old trapper cabin 200 metres away from us built by a German trapper in the early 80's using 5 live trees as the main supports and logs inbetween.. they only lasted one season. other than those none here
