Supplies for 6 months

The Beaver Bush plane flew in with more barrels of fuel and picked Vikki and Hannah up. We met Bryan in Atlin and celebrated their great hunt. Then off to Whitehorse for 2 days of mega shopping. Christmas shopping was a priority, as this was our last IN TOWN til spring. It was hard to find Christmas wrap, everything was for Thanksgiving, but Bryan got everything wrapped and mailed to his 3 children and 2 grand-children.
Then we picked up miscellaneous stuff from the Drug store, Staples, Ski-doo shop etc. Then off to the grocery store. We do this last because the back of the truck gets overflowing and someone has to be out there or it will disappear. (either from thief's or Ravens). We both entered the store with two shopping carts and quickly filled them up. The Special" that the store was offering was a Turkey for every 175.00 spent. We soon had 2. I went back into the store while Bryan packed stuff into plastic tubs and boxes. I was soon out with another Turkey and supplies. Then back in......we ended up with 4 Turkey's but could have had 7. Everything was tarped and off we drove back to Atlin exhausted. We stayed that night in the Atlin Inn and had a nice time talking to TJ and Peter at the bar.

  1. That list looks familiar! We just moved south to the Yukon after living a few years in a fly in community in Nunavut. We ordered our supplies once a year on the barge. If you forgot something you would pay and arm and probably a leg as well at the Northern Store. Or have it shipping for over $5/lb on First Air! I became a pro at figuring out how much toilet paper we needed for a year!

  2. this is our second year and hopefully we've figured it out more accuriately. With toilet paper I find myself taking a piece off the roll and then putting half of that piece back on the window. Eight months is a LONG time. vikki
