This morning it was 4C at 7am. We had coffee out by the campfire, then did our chores. Today Bryan's finishing putting 2" Styrofoam insulation along cabin wall that is underground. Last year at -46C in Feb. , we just about lost all our root vegetables which were stored in the crawl space under our cabin floor. I picked High Mountain Cranberries and Red Currants and will be making preserves tomorrow along with the wild Raspberries. Through the spotting scope I located a lone Billy Goat west of us on the high Mountains. At 4 we went moose hunting down at the w end of the lake but the rut doesn't start until the 20th. On the way back we ran our boat alongside a swimming Beaver. The Sockeye Salmon are spawning on the shores of our lake now. When they first reach the lake in Aug. they are silver but now they are red with a pale green snout. Their spawning beds are called "Reds". In a couple of weeks the shores will be covered with rotting salmon and the Grizzlies and Marten and other animals will eat them up quickly.
