Getting/Keeping Planes on Skis free of Slush

This was sent to us by George who has spent lots of time up north in the bush.  It is worth the read.

One trick we used to use for planes when they had to go through slush and then park, was parking them on a set of long cross poles.  Sometimes this is difficult because it's hard to get the plane to stop right on them but even if you can get one pole under each ski, you can lift it as a pry pole to break the skis loose when you want to go.  Or, have the plane taxi quickly over part of the runway to rub off most of the slush before parking.
With wheel skis,  you can put a board or block under the wheel, pump it down and either leave the ski up until ready for takeoff or place poles under the skis, once they are lifted, more easily.
I never heard of anyone trying the old kerosene trick but that might help too.
It's sort of like wiping bleach on tires for better grip on snow or ice.  It really works.  A little hard on tires depending on how much bleach you put on but if you wipe it on sparingly, just on the surface it's not too bad.  Lost knowledge, it seems nowadays.
Done my share of pushing on wing struts, rocking them and wagging their tails to try to break them loose.  Ha Ha George.

REMEMBER... EACH TIME YOU VOTE IS REALLY HELPING US.  KEEP IT UP
