The alarm was set for 6:45 am. We quietly left the dogs in the cabin and went out to the tree stand. As we walked we saw a Cow Moose and her calf heading to the left. Also another cow further on. We'd noticed lots of scraps and wallows on the way. Bryan made some cow calls and we waited. Then some horn thrashing and waited. A Cow Moose came out to investigate. She sniffed the scraps and finally after about 30 minutes she headed into the small pond. She made quite a show in the water. Jumping and splashing... having a great old time. It became obvious she was eating vegetation from the bottom of the pond. All you could see was her arched neck... she'd come up for air after 3 or 4 minutes.
Went back to camp for coffee, potato patties, eggs and toast. Back to tree stand from 10:30 to 12:30. Cow was still in the lake.
During the afternoon we read our books and rested. An Old Ravine came and sat on a broken tree behind the cabin and talked to us with loud guttural chroking and clicks (very unique) almost like a little song he'd made up.
This cloud definitely had a silver lining.
No animals were seen that evening.
