MOUNTAIN GOATS

The four Mountain Goats were digging holes in the dirt and laying in the holes. Bryan mentioned that it was funny that all four where laying down. He said "Where is the guard Goat?". A couple of hours later when Vikki looked again.... a Fifth Mountain Goat could be seem about 300 feet away in the tress standing on guard looking down and back the way they had come. That was why the four felt free to lay down. They must be being dugged by flies because their ears and tails where constantly flicking.
If there is no presence on our land there are some people who think it is up for grabs (like our Northwest Passage). We trap in a remote area of Northern B.C., CANADA, 100 km from the nearest road. We fly in by Beaver Bush Plane and stay here for long periods of time. We are caretakers of the land and this is how we live.

Do wolves go after the goats?
ReplyDeleteYes, Wolves, Grizzly, Wolverine and Eagles are the predators of Mountain Goats.. Eagles are particularly hard on new baby Goats.
ReplyDeleteSaw a lone Goat on Center Mountain today. 5 years ago we counted well over 40 Goats on that Mountain. Sure don't see the numbers anymore. The Wolves and the deep snow are taking their tole I believe.
