This is so hard to watch. It has been 3 months now for Bryan. He was over a pack a day or 4,000 a year. When he heard how many cigs Vikki have to buy in the fall he freaked.... When you buy them each day it doesn't seem so bad. Vikki never mentioned it before but there was a comment on buying cigs to last the winter months and she said "Well, when I asked for 35 Cartons the people in line behind me all went nuts." Vikki never says anything about smoking. She doesn't smoke but does like to drink a few glasses of wine each night. We all need our little pleasures in life.
Bryan quit for 2 months last year but in his head he quit because he had run out of cigs. So he became really down about not being able to have a smoke. Finally on one of the spring supply/fuel trip in here Vikki ordered him some smokes...
This winter Bryan said he really wanted to quit. His hands were cold in the winter and he knew that once he quit his hands didn't give him problems.
But it is so darn hard to watch. He sits there and his feet twitch. Almost like the doctor hit his knee with a hard object. He can sit and eat a whole pail of cookies and still be looking for something to eat. Bryan was on the patch for the first two months and also had the gum. He doesn't like the loengers at all. Now he is out of the gum and can't sit still.
One good thing is he doesn't need to get up in the middle of the night to go pee so he is getting a better sleep.
Hopefully he can find something else to give him some peace while sitting. Otherwise he is going to work himself to death.

Hey Vikki you could try getting Bryan a spoon carving knife, this would be something to pick up and whittle when he would normally have a smoke it does work . It is very very hard but really worthwhile both for health and the cost. I quit in 2006 and have never looked back well done Bryan :)
ReplyDeleteIt must be incredibly hard, but definitely worth it. Matthew's father passed away at age 51 from lung cancer. He smoked a pack a day. After that, we told Matthew's mother (also a smoker) that if she didn't stop, we wouldn't visit her or let her see her grandkids. She has now been smoke free for 7 years.
ReplyDeleteKeep up the hard work Bryan!
