JUST LIKE THAT THE LAKE IS OPEN...6:30 PM MAY 16

MAY 16 IS THE DAY FOR THIS LAKE TO GO OFF.  IN THE FOUR YEARS WE HAVE SEEN IT GO IT HAS HAPPENED ON THIS DAY THREE TIMES.  LAST YEAR MAY 11.  TODAY THE ICE IS ONLY 1 TO 3" THICK
BY 6:30 THERE WAS NO MORE ICE AND THE WIND BECAME INSTANTLY WARMER.

  1. Many years ago we used to see Pintails and Wigeons in the Mississippi flyway but with all the draining of low lying areas the flyway is essentially gone. Even in the 1960's there were a lot of ducks but now they all travel via the Dakota's. Spring is an amazing time to watch the migrations.
