Back to the Trapline to make trail and get ready to start after Linecabin

In the little village of
Atlin, BC, we have a garage with living space up in the small loft.

Down in the main garage we have some furniture, a fridge, and a big deep freeze.  Also a old hotplate unit that our pilot friend has lent us.
We have an old style TV with rabbit ears but we never hooked it up yet.  Always too many people to talk to.
The shop/garage allows lots of room for packing and storing the supplies we need to stay out on the trap line for the long winter.
The crew is all sleeping....Vikki is canning meat balls to take out on the line because we do not run the small propane deep freeze until late fall.  In previous years we've tried to keep cooked hams, sausages, hotdogs etc by hanging them off the dock in the water but the summer water is too warm.  Also tried storing them in the cold running creek in milk cartons but the wolves found the stuff.  Now we just take in canned meats.... whether home make or bought en.

For the meat balls..... they are better cooked in the oven but because we don't have one it is by fry pan.  Once in the canning jars Vikki
adds a hot brown gravy on top of the meat balls.  These will make many different types of easy meals in a hurry out in the bush....  they can go in spaghetti sauce, cut into pieces for sandwiches, etc etc.
Super Store had really good prices on strawberries, blueberries and bananas.  Vikki got them ready for the deep freeze.  In the freezer are boxes marked Sept.  Jan.  March.
When Chris flies out in the winter he just goes into our garage and loads up all the Jan. marked boxes in the freezer and  Jan. boxes packed along the side of the garage.  The same with his flight in March.
We're back to make trail for a couple of weeks.  We left the chickens out near Atlin and will bring them in in the fall.  Also GREAT NEWS .... in our mail was permission from the BC Government for another line cabin.  We immediately went and started the consultation process with the Tlingit First Nations.  As I post this Bryan is out in the rain down near the Inklin River starting the wall tent platform.

  1. Glad to see the post. Was not sure I wanted to wait for a fall post. Making some lifestyle changes and your lives and work play into my motivation.

  2. hi Art.... nice to know we were missed. Trip down south had to be cancelled because old dog Hannah would have had a terrible time in the heat and stuck in the truck for 8 hours a day for 3 days to make it down there. Next year will be another time.
