Vikki's flying to another Lake

Usually it's Bryan who is leaving but tomorrow morning our friend trapper/biologist east of us
is picking Vikki up in his little plane.  Vikki will help Jane with the fish sampling for about 4 days
while Brian fly's out for his daughters Grad.
It sounded like a good break for Vikki but now she thinks of all the things she should be getting
done here.  Bryan does not use the computer so don't worry if no posts for a week plus.

Trumpeter Swans

The Trumpeter Swan is the largest waterfowl in N. America and is also the largest Swan in the world.  11.4 km or 25 lbs.  The species was on the brink of extinction around 1900's.  Due in a large part to the work of Ralph Edwards and his daughter Trudy Turner of Lonesome Lake, BC Canada, the Trumpeter Swan was brought back to todays numbers of about 4,000.  (That is our estimate and should not be quoted).  Do yourself a favour and get the books...   Ralph Edwards of Lonesome Lake, Crusoe of Lonesome Lake, and Fogswamp, living with Swans in the Wilderness.
These beautiful Swans are protected in Canada.  We find it hard to understand someone wanting to shot one, but recently they have been put back on the shooting list in the U.S.
The States have been during great work in raising hatches, banding and releasing them.  Three years of of five we have seen a red banded Swan here on the lake.

Morning Mist

The earth and water are warming.... now is the season for mist and fog.  Just like in Sept/Oct.
