Heavy Snowload on Weir Cabin

This snow load is the compact remains of 12 to 14 feet of snow from this last winter.
Probably 9,000 lbs hanging off the north side of the Salmon Weir cabin at the far end of our lake. This cabin is 10 feet off the ground so that the Grizzlies are not a problem when our friends the Taku Tlingit are here for 2 months counting the Salmon run. Bryan took apart a hand saw and bolted it to aluminum poles that he had drilled and bolted together to make a 25 feet tool.

Tracks in the Snow

Yesterday we went for a tour around our lake. There were at least 10 open Otter holes, fresh Lynx, Otter, plus Lone Wolf tracks . Two different Wolverine were out also because one set was a lot bigger than the other. Only saw one Bull moose. Hope the wolf was just passing threw. The 15 moose we have wintering on the lake don't need the hassle. Although we doubt a lone wolf would tackle a moose alone.
First Wolf tracks on lake this winter.

Big Bull Moose runs out onto the lake for better advantage.

Otter sliding above, Wolverine on left.

Making room for Spring

When trapping season is over and spring is coming you have to try to help it along. The pussy willows showed their heads this week. I have planted tomato seeds and cabbage and they are 3" tall already. This is the waiting months. The lake goes out on May 21. But each day you can feel the spring is coming. We started ice fishing in mid March but no luck yet. That reminds me ...I need to renew our fishing licenses tomorrow by internet.

We're still kicking out here...

Hello out there .....we are fine and well here. Looking forward to spring. The sunlight is from 6:30 to 9 now so that should help eat up the 5 feet of snow still in our yard. We had a good trapping season but the last 3 weeks of skidooing where very tiring. Then we spent the last month catching up on all the things we had neglected during the trapping season. Just got finished putting all the traps away, made 50 marten boxes, spring cleaned the cabins and getting ready for some friends who might fly in in a couple of days. The Beaver can bring in fuel barrels easier on the ice than the water. Be great to get some more fresh vegetables also. It made my heart happy to know someone was thinking of us.
