ICE OFF

Our World opened up three days ago.  This is 10 days earlier than last year.  Yesterday morning we toured the lake ..... saw 2 Beavers, a Cow and last years calf Moose, 2 trumpetor swans and more ducks than we have ever seen hear.  Also saw nine loons flying in a line north.  Also flights of Tundra Swans.  All the ducks and birds are heading north to have their young where there is lots of bugs and not very many preditors.
My computor is still unhappy and so no photo's. I have tryed to Blog but my computor is full .....Don't know if it from all the photos stored on the computor or whether it is from the Blog.  Or whether it is from the new windows live.....There isn't much more on my computor.  I will have it looked at in Whitehorse.....
We have been getting the garden ready and the watering system up and running.  We will be away most of the summer.  the chickens, cats and garden have to beable to survive on their own.   We are tenatively GOING OUT May 25....depending on weather.
Down at the Tlingit's Fish Weir, a Griz had left it's paw prints on the new wood siding and had tore a chunk off one of the new deck supports..... Just to show what he thought of the new structure.
Now we are using up all the food stuff in the freezer because it will soon be shut down.  The generator only runs now when I check email and at 10 pm at night for an hour.  The daylight is long now.  Dawn at 4:30 am and dush at 10:45 pm.  Soon it will be daylight til 2 am in the morning and dawn at 3am.   We have just a few carrots left , one head of cabbage, but still 40 lbs of onions.  The potatoes we have left are starting to sprout so will go into the garden.  The lists are filling of supplies we need to bring in when we COME BACK IN.
We think the two juvenile Trumpetor Swans that where here last year have returned.  The two that arrived here a week ago don't seem to be afraid of us.  We are planning on building a nesting platform for them.  If they try to have a nest on the shore there is no way the young can survive.  What with Griz, Black Bear, Wolverine, Lynx, Wolf, Fisher, Martin, Eagles....prowling the shore.
Don't worry if we don't blog much.  We are well. Hopefully the computor will be back to normal soon.

A BIG HELLO to NICK from Bryan

Sure glad to know you enjoyed the cabin construcion.... It was real hard work but now it is done.  To your question on how much space to allow on the log over the door for settling and whether I float the door cassings until next year ...
Door way keyway
I know from experience that the Balsam fir here shrinks about 1/2" to the foot so the top log is 3 1/2" above the door casing.  The side cassings are nailed to a 2 x 2 key which fits into a keyway in the end of the logs.  The only place the cassing is nailed to the cabin is the bottom log.  The trim around the door and window is nailed to the cassing only.  If problems with the door develop, the jam can be adjusted by removing some trim and wedging the cassing one way or another.  Thanks for your interest Nick.  It's been fun for me to have you see what I've been up to. I write at the kitchen table then Vikki puts it into the computor.  I know alot about a chainsaw and motors but a computor is not my thing.   Glad to know you are out there.  We're heading OUT in a few weeks to start on a garage/shop in Atlin so we will probably Blog that also ....      Bryan

THANK YOU!!!!! THANK YOU!!!!!

All your help has been so good.  I finally got the computor to shut off by itself...  I have been spending ever morning and way past lunch each day ..... tiring one thing than another.  Most of the time my computor wouldn't let me do anything.  I tried the CCleaner and Defraggler yesterday but they didn't work.  The delete the browser cache didn't work either...     JUST AS FRUSTRATING AS IT CAN GET>
This morning I tried everything again and no go.    So I finally deleted each stored item  separately on Interent Explorer.   like 144 Evinrude, 125 Cabelas, 149 Amazon.ca etc etc etc.   BUT IT WORKED.  My computor shut down by itself.   After that I was able to use CCleaner and Defraggler.  Things are looking up.  Again I wouldn't have been able to do any of this without all your help.  My computor is not fixed back to normal yet but it is working again.  I have a spare one that I can use if this one crashes....but hopefully it will keep getting back to the way it should be.   Thank you for being out there.

We got buzzed Saturday night.  It was 7 pm and we were sitting by the fire.  I hear a plane "I said"  and immediately ran into the cabin and got the icom radio.  As I gave the radio to Bryan saying "tell them it's unsafe to land"  Bryan said "IT's CHRIS"   Low and fast he flew over the mushy lake in his single engine 207 Cessna and Buzzed us.  I ran out onto the dock waving and waving.  Bryan said to Chris over the radio " We are just having a Beer and Wine over the fire"  Chris's reply was "If I could land I would join you."  Off he went.... circling the lake.  I got a picture as he went by us the second time.  This plane is way faster than the Beaver.  It all took about 2 minutes at most from when the first sound of him nearing the lake to when we couldn't hear him at all..  He said he'd seen our trail down to the Inklin and that he'd see us soon"   It made our day!!!
