Moose Wolf Kill

A Moose died here and there is not a hair or a drop of blood left to say it was ever here.  Just a well beaten 60 foot area with lots of wolf tracks leading to higher spots where they carryed  their portion of the feed. They'll be jaw bones someplace near.   On the Sutlahine we located 3 such sights within 1 1/2 km.  Moose stay down around the rivers in the hope that they can reach open water if a pack of Wolves should find them..     In 3 or 4 feet of water the Wolves have a harder time.  We saw lots of evidence of Wolves chasing Moose into the open water.

Decided to buy "Mustang Survival" Snow Gear

We made our way up 11.5 km on the Sutlahine having to cross the river to the other side TOO MANY TIMES for a feeling of comfort.  We still have 12 km of untravelled river to see before we can say the 80 km circle has been made, but it is just not safe to finish it this season.  Been a really mild winter all told but that has also allowed us to get lots of trail cut in lesser snow conditions than normal.  Now we are looking on the internet for floatation snow gear.  We would be wise to wear this when travelling in the Bush Plane also.

Day 4 10:am to 6 pm 1979 Alpine Twin Track

All the Kings Horses and all the Kings Men tried to put "Miss Porky" together again.
1 1/2 hrs sanding the steel shiv and polishing the aluminum clutch with rags and clutch cleaner. Took fuel pump apart and soaked it in carb cleaner. The diaphram looked in good condition. Removed the air box and cleaned out all the pine needles, washed it up.
Totally disassembled the carburator , cleaned it as best as possible and bolted it back on.
Celebration dinner was getting ready.

Day 4 1979 Alpine Twin Track

Back out for an early start. trail was frozen again. We turned the Alpine on to it's side and cleaned out the tracks with a rubber hammer because this was the reason it wouldn't pull the day before as the track had seized with snow accummulation and was just skiding. Snow conditions were ideal this morning and the trip home was uneventful......other than hi speed hill climbing with the skis in the air. the Long Drop is 400 feet and the skis might have touched 3 or 4 times up that long hill. At the summit there was some "HI FIVES" and big smiles. She's home now... and here name is "PORKY" It's 9:30 am in the morning.

Day 3 1979 Alpine Twin Track

Back with "Miss Piggy" our 800 4 stroke Skandic (who had never been taken down the Mountain because we were afraid we'd never get her back up). But the trail and the snow conditions are great and she can pull more than Poncho the 550.
We managed 3 kms which included 15 sets of rope and block/tackle and pulling inbetween before snow conditions worsened and we had to give up for the day.

Day 2 1979 Alpine Twin Track

First we had to find it, then shovel and chainsaw it out as trees had fallen over it and populars had grown thru it and around it. We took off everything except the tracks and the hood. All the parts were wired and roped into the skimmer. "Poncho" the 550 Tundra brought the stripped down twin track up the river to the bottom of the mountain and went back and pulled the load of parts home.

An Unneccessary Challenge Day 1

An unneccessary challenge.....hauling the Vintage 1979 Alphine Twin Track Skidoo back home. DAY 1 At first just getting up and down with our skidoo's and a chainsaw was a real challenge....Now we have decided to bring this old Twin track (that belongs to our trapline assets) home. It hasn't been run in 13 years. Driving it is out of the question. We have to tow it. The journey takes in about 5km on Inklin River then 6km up to our lake.... 2 1/2 km climbs up 1,100 feet in elevation with lots of ups and downs ....like the stock market.
