Hello.... I need some advice out there. With all the research of what Boat and Engine to buy. Also all the supply shopping on Cabelas ,Amazon, etc etc etc. My computor is saying it is out of Virtual Memory. I have checked my computor and it says I still have 46% room.
I notice that when I go to look up something like Evinrude motor....... it shows I have 88 files stored on my computor on Evinrude. This must mean that ever time I went to the Evinrude site it stayed on my computor.
We will be flying out of our lake in another 3 or 4 weeks so i can take my computor to be looked at then.....BUT IF ANTONE KNOWS HOW TO TAKE OFF ALL THESE STORED FILES>>>>COMMENT TO US. Thanks a bunch
I've been on the computor lots trying to get it back to normal ....way too much time on the computor and it is driving me nuts. Bryan has been cleaning up the yard, etc etc etc. Lake is starting to candle. Open for 20 feet alone shore. The first goldeye's showed up this morning. The first Mallard pair came yesterday.

hello up there, sometimes the files are stored in the temp files area.usually for some preset period of time though if not they may stay forever. you can remove the files by searching under the start menu for files and folders. type in the word temp. and then hit the tab to search. it should bring up all temp related files.including temp internet files. open the folder select all entries and delete. that should open up some space for you . it may in some cases tell you that there is a folder that cant be removed. that is a system folder and forms sort of the foundation of that particular storage area but most of it can be eliminated without problem. hope that helps a bit. also you may want to run a malware program to see if there is any thing else in there causing problems. ken
What operating system are you using? You can increase the size of your Virtual Memory. Basicly if you run out of RAM (memory) on you PC it uses your harddrive to store or "act" like mormal memory. My guess is your hard drive might be running out of space. Since most competers will increase the size of the "Virtual Memory" as needed. If you have very little hard disk space left your Virtual Memory will be low.
You might have to delete some larger files to make room. As vgint1 said look to delete some of the temporary files.

One way of doing some housecleaning is to clear away files that are no longer needed or just garbage. After that you need to do a defragging to sort everything related close to each other. Much like cleaning your desk from those umpteen piles of this n' that to 3-4 neat piles, such as bills, income tax, fun stuff and to be filed.
Depending on operating system the route to get to this is different - but start out with Utilities and go from there.
My word verification is "falibili" which almost suggests that my advice may not be infallible...
Good Luck!
Thanks Ken, Terry and Trudie. my operating system is Window XP. I routinely Defrag and clean up. I am just going to try what you suggested.... THANKS FOR BEING OUT THERE
Okay Vikki:
Simple fix:
Click on Computer
Click on C: drive
Click on Users
Your user name & Public usually shows up, but there could/can be others
Delete anything that you are sure you do not want in the File Folders you see
WARNING You will find a lot of garbage that you never thought you had.
Next acquire a free program from Piriform called CCleaner, this is a great program for getting rid of the daily garbage most of us pick up ever day & use it everyday prior to shut down and it will keep your system cleaner. They also have a decent Defragging program too.
Another thing that slowly sucks up your memory is Windows "Restore", it keeps writing to it's self everyday as to your system. It is there encase you have a major problem that you have installed, you can "restore" your computer to a time before. I can give you instructions in another post to clean the "Restore" files out.
But the first advise should get you through till "Fly Out". Oh and congrats on the new Family member.
BC GRAY.....Okay I go to C Drive ...where do you find Users... to click on. thanks for you help and yes we are excited about the new family member.
It should be one of a few file folders in C: drive Vikki, and it contains all your personal data. You do not want to fool with anything else.
Though you could remove programs that are obsolete with another process, which should be dealt with another time.
When curing problems on the computer it is best to do one process at a time. Then observe the results
If you are still having problems you can contact me at my Email Address, which should show on your side of your blog.
You can also pose this question on Microsoft's Help website, and will get more details than I can post here. Oh and Vikki feel free to delete all my post's, as they are really not relevant to your Blog.
Hope that helps
Bryan do the same as I do, when my computer gets screwed up I give it to the kids and go buy a new one, Order one and let Chris fly it in for you.
Hey guys I'm no help but, I hope your computer sorts its self out :)Brian(:
Hi Vikki.
I'm a cheap farmer, so believe it or not I have a looong history of keeping computers alive past their expected life span. I don't fully agree with some of the advice on here, such as hard drive is full, install more programs, etc.
Virtual memory is a type of memory Windows uses if your RAM chip(s) get full. Basically, it is a little piece of the hard drive that is set aside and not used for other things. If the RAM chip gets full, Windows temporarily writes some of the RAM data onto this reserved hard drive section so it could do something like open another program into the newly freed up RAM, etc. The virtual memory size can be limited with settings in Windows, but the default is to let Windows manage it's size. So, unless you changed the settings, it shouldnt be that.
If your drive is showing 46%, it's not full. It does sound like your Internet Explorer or other browser is keeping versions of the pages visited on the hard drive. It is set to do this by default when you install it. It's pretty easy to have this stored file area get pretty huge, which makes Internet Explorer act like a Tundra just before it runs out of gas. ;-) This internet file area is limited in total size, and the default is for Windows to use a percentage of your total hard drive size eg: 4% or something ike that. So this area can get filled to the brim even if your hard drive still has space left. To clear this internet storage area, click on Tools in Internet Explorer, then click Internet Options. Depending on your version of IE, you will find some choice that says something like clear browsing history, clear cookies, etc. Clear as much of this as you can.
If this doesn't help, I suspect your hard drive is about to pack it in.
How are the computer problems going?
I contacted my expert computer friend on your problem and this is what he said. Hopefully it helps...Cathie
As far as the virtual memory thing goes, I'm a bit rusty on my PC stuff but I believe that that happens when the computer runs out of actual RAM to work with and then starts using the hardrive to extend the RAM. This is of course much slower. I would say that there could be a number of things going on here but primarlily that the hardrive is starting to fill up. The first thing I would try doing is in Internet Explorer, delete the browser cache and all unneccessary internet downloads that you don't need anymore. That can be found under Tools --> Delete Browser History. In there remove all the temporary internet files.
The other thing would be to uninstall any programs that aren't being used, remove any documents that are no longer needed, etc. Anything to free up some space.
Thirdly, you can increase the amount of vitual memory. Here is a page that explains how: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/826513
The other thing might be to install more RAM into the computer and/or put in a larger hardrive.
Think our intrepid Trappers are indeed trapped with an errant computer, as our Vikki has not re posted since April 30.
Looking forward to your posted when you guys get back to Atlin, and sorry none of us could help
